Hear&Now Feature: Fun ways to give back to your community!
By: Emily S.
Ever since the 1920s, volunteering has been an important part of Girl Scouts. It is essential that Girl Scouts continue to emphasize this great tradition of helping their community.
Here are some ideas for volunteer opportunities in your local community:
For girls near Sacramento County: City of Sacramento has several youth volunteer opportunities spanning a wide variety of the departments from finance and information technology to general services.
Yolo County: 2-1-1 Yolo Community Outreach Team which is part of the Yolo County Library.
Placer County: Local libraries like Roseville Public Library include activities for volunteers such as shelving and being part of the teen library council.
El Dorado County: Volunteering at the Animal Shelter is also needed, especially for activities like dog exercising and office support. Collecting and donating items on the animal shelter wish list is also helpful!
San Joaquin County: There are several community organizations that work with volunteers—like churches and community centers. Plus, the City of Stockton has an “Adopt our City” program which includes park clean-ups.
Stanislaus County: The Stanislaus County Government Volunteer Program provides a list of departments open for volunteers, from animal services to parks and recreation.
