Tales From Camp: Last Session Adventures

Good afternoon!

It’s finally come to our last day of regular session and as our last week of campers pack their bags and clean their units, us staff are wiping our eyes and getting ready for our annual all-camp cleanup. It was an awesome session to end on with perfect weather, great all-camp events and theme meals and of course incredible campers to match. This week we had Horse Lovers, Sierra Safari, Forest Friends, Camp Quest, Camp Surprise, and Back to Basics. We also had our Arts Alive, Eco-Fashionistas, and Rock Stars finishing up their eight-day program!

Horse Lovers had plenty of time to learn the ropes up at the corral as well as diving into all our other camp activities. Sierra Safari and Camp Quest spent time exploring the camp magic and planning their own fun activities. Camp Quest also ventured out to Mercer Caverns yesterday for a little bit of cave exploring. Forest Friends had fun doing all kinds of activities and winning the hearts of all the other campers as the only Girl Scout Brownie group at camp this session. Back to Basics honed their wilderness and survival skills and spent several nights out in the meadow enjoying the full moon and the array of stars surrounded by a ring of some of the tallest trees in camp.

DSCF4762Eco-Fashionistas sewed together some very chic and eco-friendly clothing and hosted an awesome fashion show for everyone just before dinner. Arts Alive attended the Bear Valley Music Festival on Saturday and had a great time wandering around the venue seeing all the different performances. Rock Stars took a trip to White Pines Lake for some canoeing and swimming and stopped by the tasty Giant Burger, a local delicacy, for lunch! Camp Surprise planned a super cool carnival for our all-camp event themed after different places around Camp Menzies. Our dining hall area served lemonade and Girl Scout Cookies and we also had a giant working timeline, face painting, photos in a canoe, hair and nails, and many other fun activities. They were also kept very busy putting together our Under the Sea/Space theme meal. What a treat! IMG_0172

It was definitely a session to remember this week, with all the laughter and stories created. Our campfire last night was a very bittersweet event and I know their will be more than a few tears as the buses depart this afternoon. I’ll be writing a final summer wrap-up post in the next few days… this truly has been an amazing summer and I hope you enjoyed following along. Thanks to all our awesome campers for making camp magical and bringing so much excitement and energy up to Camp Menzies. Happy trails!
