Girl Scout Cadettes Juliet and Emma recently learned about a special organization that helps homeless youth, Wind Youth Services, and they decided to make that the focus of their Girl Scout Silver Award project.
Wind Youth Services offers Sacramento youth meals, counseling, basic medical care, a clothing closet, sanitary supplies, employment, educational assistance and more.
Juliet and Emma produced an informative video for YouTube with the intent of increasing awareness about Wind to inspire generous, community-minded families to donate.
The girls planned a series of donation parties where more than 25 of their friends gathered together and bringing donated items. They made more than 150 bag lunches for the Wind Youth Services outreach program and hundreds of feminine supply packs for the WIND drop-in center. When they finished, the teens celebrated doing good by enjoying pizza, swimming and playing board games.
They made another YouTube video, encouraging other teens to hold their own donation parties for WIND.
The girls’ efforts increased awareness about Wind Youth Services and resulted in 2 large truckloads of donations, including bottled water, dog food, socks, underwear, clothing, snacks and outfits for youth to wear to job interviews.
